Membership FAQ
What is Phi Mu Alpha?
Our Fraternity, officially Phi Mu Alpha, is a national, social fraternity for men of music.
Who can join Phi Mu Alpha?
To be eligible for membership in the Epsilon Lambda chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, you must be a male student at UGA who is involved in some form of music. Sinfonia is for all musicians, regardless of instrument. As of January, 2009 a GPA of 2.5 is required for membership.
Do I have to be a music major to join?
No. In fact, over half of the brothers are non-music majors.
Do I have to be participating in a University ensemble to join?
No. While most do anyways, it is not required. A love of music is the main requirement.
How do I join Phi Mu Alpha?
If you are interested in membership, you are encouraged to attend as many of our mixer events as possible. Mixer events will be announced soon after school starts. After the last mixer event, the chapter will vote on all prospective members. Those who receive at least 3/4 affirmative from the chapter will be offered a bid (invitation to pledge). Those who receive bids will receive more information on the pledge period, which begins in January.
